Buffalo Rehab Group Recognized for Excellence in Clinical Instruction

Team Development

Buffalo Rehab Group is proud to announce that our Occupational Therapy program has been recognized by the University at Buffalo with the 2026 Excellence in Clinical Instruction Award.

This award was presented to Jillian McMasters, OTD OTR/L, Director of Occupational Therapy, in recognition of her leadership and BRG’s significant contributions to the clinical education of Occupational Therapy students.

This recognition is awarded to a clinician and an organization that has made meaningful, sustained contributions to student education.

This aligns directly with the role of a Clinical Education Coordinator, ensuring students receive structured, hands-on learning that translates into real clinical skill.

Built From the Ground Up

Just over five years ago, Occupational Therapy did not exist at BRG.

At the time BRG first partnered with the University at Buffalo, the OT team consisted of just two clinicians: Jill McMasters and Brandy Clarke.

Since then, the program has expanded into a team of more than 13 Occupational Therapists, with growing specialty areas that now include:

Growth alone doesn’t earn this type of recognition. BRG has built a clinical environment capable of teaching, mentoring, and developing future professionals.

A Consistent Commitment to Student Development

Over the past several years, BRG has:

    • Accepted and trained a high volume of OT students
    • Provided placements
    • Delivered structured mentorship in an outpatient setting
    • Contributed to academic programming, including hands-on lab instruction

Notably, BRG clinicians have gone beyond day-to-day patient care. Contributions like manual therapy lab instruction led by Brandy Clarke demonstrate direct involvement in shaping curriculum, not just supporting it.

One of the clearest indicators of a strong clinical education program is what happens after the placement ends.

At BRG, multiple former students have gone on to become full-time Occupational Therapists within the company.

Leadership Perspective

Director of Occupational Therapy Jill McMasters shared the significance of this recognition:

“This award is an incredible accomplishment for our entire team and something we are truly proud of. As a group, we are deeply passionate about advocating for the Occupational Therapy profession and expanding its impact within our community.”

“It is amazing to reflect on how far we have come. Just over five years ago, Occupational Therapy did not exist at BRG, and today we have a thriving and growing department.”

“We have welcomed countless students into our clinics, providing them with meaningful learning opportunities, mentorship, and exposure to the profession in an outpatient practice. Even more rewarding has been the opportunity to hire several of those former students.”

“Together, we remain committed to continuing to grow, educate, and serve our community while championing the essential role Occupational Therapy plays within the healthcare system.”
